Elementary Librarian tired of all the Theft

I am so tired of the theft in my library and I just want to vent. I run a makerspace in my library. It's a mixture of make and break and also games. It's an opportunity for kids to play with an assortment of other kids, play games with rules, build and make to challenges etc. Except I have kids who really seems to think what's mine is theirs. I've lost the figures to stop motion, all the motors and fans from my snap circuits, Lego (tires and minifigs). I teach kids simple crochet and one of my projects was stolen off my desk and they also stole my box of safety eyes not to mention 6 out of the 10 crochet hooks I bought. I'm so tired. I have a big school, we have long days (private), and I'm the only librarian and every time I turn my back things are gone. I do my best to keep track of it all and make sure it's returned, but the minute my back is turned, gone. I don't really need advice (unless you have a great way to catch the little so and so) I just want to complain. I work my butt o

Underrated Moments as a Teacher

Small moments that feel great (as a middle school teacher): When the shy kid who never talks smiles at a joke. When a kid interrupts me to ask what I word I used means (you’re listening??? you care enough to ask???) When a kid calls me mom and then turns beet red. What are some underrated moments that bring you joy? submitted by /u/Roboticheartbeat [link] [comments]

Rote memory has gotten a bad rap

As a veteran elementary teacher and recent redditor I’ve been told time and time again to steer kids away from memorization. I’ve been discouraged to use math flash cards and we don’t even have spelling tests in my district anymore. They give a spelling pattern test with like 5 words and 3 sentences. I get it. It’s more important to learn the patterns whether in math or ELA but rote memory is incredibly important for freeing up mental space for other tasks. Im sure there’s other benefits too. OR, AITA teacher thats just trying to rebel against the powers that be??? submitted by /u/veteranTeacher91 [link] [comments]

A conversation I keep having while monitoring online credit recovery exams during summer school

Student: Can you reopen the test? I didn’t pass. Me: I can, but I’d like you to take a little time to review the content first. Student, with a dramatic sigh: But I don’t know it. I just used AI for everything. Me, more shocked than I should be at their complete lack of embarrassment: Okay, so, how do you expect to pass the test? Student: I’m just trying different answers each time. Me: That doesn’t seem to be working for you. Student: Well I don’t know what else to do. Me: Do you think you might learn the content better if you did the assignments on your own? Student: No. I don’t know any of this. Me: … Student: Like I know I should do it, but I don’t have time to learn everything in three weeks. Me: Just humor me, okay? Go back through your assignments, and redo these ones in particular, because even the online system flagged them as AI.* Take some good notes. Then I can reopen the test. Student: … Me: I care about the quality of your summer break and want to graduate you as soon as

[5/5] Worth it- the free version and the paid one

If you’re in school or learning something Quizlet is worth it. The games, the flashcards, the option to cram or memorize it all- it’s worth it

[4/5] It’s mostly helpful

I have been using this app for 90% of exams and quizzes. It is very helpful when it comes to language practice when there is a one word answer. The app is mostly good on remembering the sets you have studied to you can easily find the set. It’s a bit hard to find creators on the app if you don’t know their exact name and it’s hard to know what aide will be which when you create a set. The most annoying part about this app is that if you want to study certain types of subjects - for example, vocabulary where the answer isn’t a one word response but more of an idea. In the learn mode, you need to rewrite what is on the other side of the card in order to get it right. However that type of material doesn’t need to be reiterated exactly so you will probably end up getting the answer to those questions wrong. I also wish that in learn mode Quizlet could add more options using ai that are similar to the write answer. Otherwise, it’s easier to use deductive reasoning to get the question correc

[1/5] Horrible.

Everything was going good until it started tweaking out. The stupid app will mix up your terms and definitions and when you flip them and I’ll flip them back. It glitches and does not let you click, restart flashcards. The app genuinely just sucks in every way I thought that it was good at first since it made stunning easier, which is the only good part except that it makes you mad and frustrated when it stops working. and it stops working every three seconds this app is horrible. Do not buy and definitely do not pay for it.

[5/5] Quizlet Plus is a GameChanger

I originally used Quizlet free version and it was fine but it was always annoying to run out of learn rounds because I still had multiple rounds to go. With Quizlet plus, my grades increased so much in the classes I used Quizlet for, and it’s only $45 a year for all the features! I highly recommend getting this app and upgrading to Quizlet Plus because you will see the difference in your academic performance.

[1/5] Fix the image issue already!!!

Iam so frustrated with quizlet- others have being complaining about the same exact thing. Why am I paying premium monthly membership to use a feature that isn’t working!!! Why does quizlet keep shrinking images?! They should actually make the images bigger. This app is garbage. Get rid of the bs additions, the AI generator and just fix the stupid image issues that we’ve been complaining about for years!!!

[1/5] Why isn’t it free anymore

I don’t understand how they’re charging to use their platform when it used to be free. Not only that, they’re getting money from others people work. I make my own sets, other people make their own sets, yet quizlet doesn’t make their own sets to study, so why are you charging money on other people’s work? Such a greedy thing to do.

[3/5] Grading Options Tool Needs Work

Quizlet needs to work on their grading options tool. I set most of my learning grading options to moderate which states "exact match requires" with leeway for misspellings but there has been countless times where I will put the completely wrong answer ( answers for completely different questions, not even a correct general answer or summary for the question) and it says I get it right! I also turned on the option to retype correct answers but if I override something as incorrect it doesn't force me to retype the correct answer, it's completely frustrating! Granted, this review is more about their laptop usability and not their app so I'm not sure if it works better on the phone/iPad but I'm getting frustrated with how their website functions.
