SecureShift LMS

Why now

The May 2026 Instructure/Canvas ransomware attack exposed millions of minors' data and took weeks to recover, triggering immediate procurement reviews at districts nationwide and creating a regulatory and reputational crisis for incumbent LMS vendors.

Problem

Schools rely on monolithic LMS platforms like Canvas that become single points of failure during cyberattacks, leaving thousands of students locked out for weeks with zero direct communication and no fallback continuity plan.

Audience

K-12 district IT administrators and university CIOs evaluating or re-evaluating their LMS stack after major security incidents

Concept

A resilient, modular LMS architecture that stores assignment data, grades, and coursework in encrypted, institution-controlled storage (not vendor-controlled) with automatic offline-capable progressive web apps for students. Includes a real-time incident communication layer that pushes status updates directly to students and parents during outages, and a 'continuity mode' that keeps core functions (viewing assignments, submitting work) operational even when the central server is compromised.

[1/5] Ruined my life

Canvas is really bad, u literally got hacked, and this is so unproductive and hard to use. Google classroom is better than yours. Google classroom is free, why would I spend money on something that doesn’t help me in the slightest? Please fix your app, thanks.

[1/5] :(

I used this app for 5 years, and it was perfect! But all of a sudden, I open ClassLink, and there is no canvas? I ask my teacher, and she said it got hacked. I don’t blame y’all, but try to have better security.

[1/5] CANVAS HAS BEEN HACKED, UNINSTALL IMMEDIATELY!

Canvas has recently been hacked, they are asking Instructure for a ransom and currently canvas has been converted into a malware that will activate on your device at the end of the day of May 12th, uninstall before than unless you want to get your files leaked.

[3/5] Loved, but can’t Access

I used to love Canvas. I used it every day for my classes and it was so helpful to be able to have open and refer back to when doing reading assignments on my phone. But since the crash, I haven’t been able to log back into it. I’ve tried deleting and redownloading it multiple times and nothing has worked .

[1/5] Absolute joke

Instructure gets hacked and leaves my private data in the hands of scammers? Absolute joke. I cannot wait for the day I can delete this app and never use it again. DO NOT USE CANVAS IF YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS!!!

[3/5] Needs improvement

The functionality is nice, but changing the to-do list made it look and function poorly. After the cybersecurity attack it took weeks until my specific school got at least some stuff back up and running. Zero direct communication to users STILL having issues after weeks.

[1/5] Lack of Mobile Device Accessibility

The new update took off mobile device accessibility on the phone and iPad. When viewing files, the same file viewer from the web version appears, successfully taking away valuable spaces with zoom, page count, expand, download, and it show empty white pages outside the page edge. In addition, you cannot zoom in with your finger to your desire location, you are forced to zoom with the +/- and the page zooms to the edge of the page, and you need to find where you were last time. All of these make the already small documents look smaller on mobile device, and disrupt the instinct to ZOOM IN or OUT with your fingers. The mobile app should be a quick easy way to access materials on the go, If I wanted the web version, I would have use a computer or laptop. The to do list panda and check box is also not needed for many others who would prefer a cleaner page as before. Please enable a system where students can customize how it should look according to accessibility.
